Hello

This blog is a training ground for me to learn how to use WordPress . I am writing an almost daily extract from my diary from the round the world yacht race I completed 10 years ago.

I hope you enjoy it and see my blogging and WordPress skills develop over the coming months.

By way of introduction The Times 2000 Clipper around the world yacht race was an 11-month race circumnavigating the world covering 40,000 miles. The route followed the trade winds and was largely a downwind race. There were 8 identical 60ft Clipper yachts competing in the race, each crewed by a maximum of 14 amateur crew and a professional skipper. The yachts were named after cities (and 1 Channel Island). They were:

Plymouth, London, Jersey, Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, Portsmouth

The crews were made up of Round the Worlders (RTW) – who were doing the whole race and leggers who were doing one or more legs of the race. The crews had varied previous sailing experience, but all completed the Clipper training in preparation for the race. Age of the crew range from 18 – 61.
